GREEK OREGANo |
Born of blue sky,
the smell of the vast and pure Tasman ocean, this is not the common
dried oregano, it is the strongest, spiciest,
and most aromatic culinary oregano you can find.
The Greeks call
it 'origini', and it is the dried flowering stems of the
wild Mediterranean herb Origanum vulgaris sub-species hirtum
(Origanum heracleoticum)
.
Because you are using only dried flower
stems this is the strongest, most aromatic oregano you can buy! Much
stronger than 'Mediterranean
oregano', and stronger even than 'Mexican'
(which is not true oreganum at all! ). The traditional Mediterranean
cuisines use only flower stems - making this form of the herb expensive
to produce in commercial amounts, and difficult to obtain.
We are small enough to do it for you
the traditional way. We painstakingly hand pick our organically
grown true Greek flower stems in their brief high summer season when
they are intensely aromatic and resinous. At the peak of flowering
they are at their maximum flavor, and the natural health giving chemicals
are also at their highest
concentration.
The
aromatic flower stems are dried naturally (no artificial heat to drive
off the oils) to perfection in controlled shade to maximize flavor, then
hand ground and packaged to seal in the intense aroma and flavors.
We now have a new offer
for those of you who are looking to make our fine and pungent herb into
a medicine; You now have the opportunity to purchase a very fine grind
for use in such things as dietary supplement capsules.

If you are a lover of good food 'any'
oregano is not good enough! 'Origini', the true Greek dried flowers stems
as used by Greek peasant cuisine is the only authentic taste!
True Greek oreganum,
Origanum vulgaris sub-species hirtum, is the dried white flower stem, extremely high in helath giving and flavorsome essential oils. The remaining foliage is not used, even tho' still a powerful herb in itself. |
The common 'oregano',
Oreganum vulgare, is primarily dried foliage. |
